AQUATIC CENTERS
Tony Aguirre Community Center
The Tony Aguirre Community Center, located in Kansas City, Missouri, was originally constructed in September, 2000. Since that time the $4 million building has been plagued with various design and construction issues.
Hoss & Brown Engineers, as part of a team of experts, conducted an extensive study in order to determine how best to solve the building problems. In the second phase, we received approval to implement design recommendations derived from the study. One of the key locations requiring special attention was the indoor pool area. Our goal was to update the existing design so it would conform to ASHRAE natatorium design standards. That included verifying that the space was properly exhausted, controlling temperature and humidity, and maintaining acceptable airflow patterns and velocities. A new rooftop air handling unit was added to provide positive building pressurization and better indoor air quality outside the pool room.
