DESIGN-BUILD

Caterpillar Plant of Emporia

This project is a new manufacturing plant for Caterpillar Mobile Track Division.  The facility was delivered through a Design/Build method and is located in Emporia, Kansas.

The mechanical systems include high pressure steam boilers and distribution, rotary air compressors with distribution, and tower water for machine cooling.  The main production area is provided with roof mounted, gas-fired heating and ventilation units with outside air controls to allow for make-up air based on interior space pressure.

The electrical system includes dual 2,500 amp main switches at 277/480 to support mechanical systems, production equipment power, and lighting.  Separately derived 120/208 volt systems are provided to serve general power needs.  The production floor lighting system was designed around pulse-start metal halide high bay fixtures.

Included is a general office area served by a direct expansion, gas-fired roof top unit with VVT zoning controls.  The lighting for the office area is fluorescent fixtures equipped with energy efficient T8 lamps and solid state ballasts.
