ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Garfield Elementary

This project was part of several renovations and additions for the Ottawa School District.  The project was performed in two Phases to allow school sessions to continue.

The renovation/addition HVAC system includes a pair of water tube, gas-fired boilers. The boiler provides heating hot water for the air handling units which are located on a catwalk system above the corridor to save classroom space. The gymnasium is provided with a constant volume, direct expansion unit, while the educational areas are conditioned by individual, chilled/hot water units. The chilled water is produce in an air-cooled, rotary compressor chiller with remote indoor evaporator to reduce freezing potential. Dedicated outside air units are provided to meet the IAQ needs of the classrooms.

The electrical system is based on 277/480 volts serving HVAC equipment and lighting with separately derived 120/208 volt systems to serve other power needs. The electrical system allows for dedicated clean power for computer loads in the classrooms.  The lighting system design is fluorescent fixtures equipped with energy efficient T8 lamps and solid state ballasts.
