ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Hesston Elementary School
This project involved the renovation of the mechanical and electrical systems in this building and was performed in phases to allow the use of the school during the renovation.
The renovation of the HVAC system includes a new higher efficiency cast iron, sectional gas-fired boiler. The gymnasium is provided with a constant volume, direct expansion unit to allow for community use, while the educational areas are conditioned by variable air volume, chilled water air handling units. Heating is achieved using hot water heating coils integral to the VAV terminal units. Chilled water is produced in an air-cooled, rotary compressor chiller with remote indoor evaporator.
The renovation is based on 277/480 volts serving HVAC equipment and lighting with 120/208 volt systems to serve other power needs. The renovated electrical system allows for dedicated clean power for computer loads in the classrooms. The entire building was rewired to eliminate old and unreliable wiring. The lighting system design is fluorescent fixtures equipped with energy efficient T8 lamps and solid state ballasts.
