Tomanek Hall

Tomanek Hall is a $10 million, 90,000 square-foot facility constructed for the State of Kansas.  The facility is located on the campus of Fort Hays State University and consists of teaching laboratory space, general teaching classrooms, central campus computing center, computer teaching labs, and office spaces.

The building included acid resistive piping for the DWV system, distilled water production, laboratory fume hood ventilation, and general building HVAC. The laboratory fume hood ventilation is connected to a heat recovery system. The cooling for the building is derived from a water-cooled chilled water system. Heating for the building is derived from the central steam plant and routed to the building via a new tunnel.

Each laboratory was provided with dedicated electric panels to facilitate continuing equipment changes. The exterior offices suites were fitted with day-light dimming systems. The electrical design included the telephone and data distribution, interconnected via fiber optic cable to the campus central distribution system. 10,000 square feet of the facility is dedicated to the computer department and contains the central computer room with cabling to the campus information distribution system.
