Downtown 2000 Mixed Use Building
This mixed use building is four-stories and occupies the corner of 10th and New Hampshire in Lawrence, Kansas. This building is comprised of ground floor retail, second floor office space for city of Lawrence, and two levels of loft-style apartments. The building is constructed of lasting materials of brick and stone and is designed to be compatible with the architectural character of historic downtown Lawrence. The ground floor retail is accented with large storefront openings, awnings, and street lighting to enhance the pedestrian feel of the building.
The parking garage is located in the 900 block of New Hampshire Street. This facility provides 497 parking spaces right in the heart of downtown Lawrence. The facility is constructed of pre-cast concrete with brick and stone cladding. Elevators serve all 4 levels, and open stairs with street level canopies connect directly to the city sidewalks. Additionally, shallow “infill” retail is provided at the street level to be used for shops or offices. This project had to conform to a diverse set of design criteria; including those set forth by the Downtown Urban Design Plan, The Historic Resource Commission, downtown merchants, and neighborhood groups.
